The Senior Technician II, Manufacturing performs a wide variety of operations. The primary responsibility is in performing hands-on synthesis of dsm-firmenich Biomedical products in accordance with the dsm-firmenich Quality System and established operating procedures. Executes and coordinates activities independently, takes ownership of all activities and processes assigned.
Key Responsbilities:
- Process specialist, fully trained on majority of processes and with strong knowledge content of chemical interactions and processes.
- Perform the hands-on synthesis of dsm-firmenich Biomedical products according to the dsm-firmenich Quality System and established Standard Operating Procedures of dsm-firmenich.
- Responsible for making sure that all required raw materials for the product to be made are available and released for use.
- Responsible for dispensing the required raw materials for the synthesis and making sure that the reactor and ancillary equipment are clean and ready for use.
- Responsible for sampling and in-process monitoring of the synthesis. Must be able to interpret the analytical test result during the synthesis.
- Responsible for accurately following the procedures and data recording that is required on the Production Document.
- Responsible for documenting any production variation when it occurs during any operation. Must be able to write a variance report.
- Responsible for revising current SOP when needed.
- Provides ongoing support of production scale-up and developmental work.
- Provide training to other Production Technicians.
- Maintain labor posting and timekeeping requirements in designated system on a daily basis.
- Adhere to dsm-firmenich Quality System procedures and the ISO 9001and ISO 13485 standards.
- Responsible for recording all raw materials used in the Material Log Sheet in the warehouse.
- Responsible for the routine repair and preventive maintenance for manufacturing equipment.
- Performs cleaning on production equipment as required.
- Responsible for handling and proper disposal of Hazardous Waste and Non-hazardous wastes in accordance with safety protocols.
- Responsible for setting up equipment for production.
- As assigned and properly trained; perform a combination of tasks necessary to ensure hazardous materials are properly handled, classified and stored. Perform duties necessary to characterize and profile waste in compliance with all applicable local, state, and federal regulations. This includes:
- Characterize waste and apply proper waste codes and labels
- Review manifests for any off site shipments; assist transporter during shipment of waste
- Maintain good housekeeping at hazardous material storage areas and perform weekly inspections of these areas.
- Respond to spills of hazardous material as directed.
- Responsible for maintaining a good housekeeping in the Manufacturing Area.

You Bring:
- HS Graduate. AA or BS Degree in Chemistry or related field preferred.
- 6+ years relevant experience in a chemical or industrial manufacturing facility/plant.
- Demonstrates full working knowledge of job/position responsibilities, procedures, practices.
- Requires general understanding of purpose and operations outside own work area.
- Ability to work independently and with a team.
- Effective communication skills both written and oral.
- Ability to work with basic chemical laboratory apparatus and weighing and dispensing of chemicals.
- Must possess basic understanding of chemical safety and hygiene.
- Good documentation skills required.
- Aptitude and ability to follow written technical instructions.
- Ability to lift and handle weights up to 50 pounds
- Previous experience driving a forklift desirable.
- Punctual, self-starter, dependable and detail-oriented.
- Proficient using MS Word, Excel and Outlook
The salary or hourly wage scale provided reflects the pay range dsm-firmenich expects to pay the successful candidate for the position. Individual pay offered will be based on the applicant’s job-related skills, experience, relevant education, or training, and primary work location.
