The Challenge:

Have a passion for Continuous Improvement (CI) of chemical process plants?  Come join the DSM Resins and Functional Materials (DRF) Wilmington, MA operations team as a Plant Performance Engineer.


In this role, you will be responsible for developing and delivering the strategic vision for improving the performance of the Wilmington plant.  You will identify and analyze areas affecting the performance of the plant and help implement new sustainable innovative solutions through near-term small projects as well as long-term capital projects.  This role will be reporting to the Wilmington Improve Plant (IP) Manager and support the site’s IP process.


The Position:

  • Identify, propose, support and execute projects to enhance Safety, Health & Environment (SHE), perform debottlenecking studies, reduce in processing costs, improve yield, identify and optimize process and quality improvement areas, automate operations, and expand capacity using IP processes.
  • Serve as Ready to Operate (RTO) manager on key capital projects.
  • Evaluate existing DCS automation methodologies, identify opportunities for improving plant operations with a goal of minimizing user intervention, develop control strategies for sustaining product quality and operational reliability.
  • Participate in project technical reviews, design reviews, incident reviews, audits, and HAZOP studies.
  • Take an active participation for enhancing the Asset Utilization (AU) at the site.
  • Provide engineering expertise to the department and may serve as an expert to the organization.
  • Adhere and work to SHE standards and encourage fellow colleagues to subscribe to the same standards.
  • Follow the change control process and ensure that change control documentation (for example, P&ID CAD drawings, red lines, Process Safety Management (PSM), Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), ISO, etc.) is completed for process changes.
  • Communicate issues and process improvement ideas to all stakeholders for soliciting feedback regarding proposed changes.  Interact with and assist team members and external resources as necessary (for example, vendors, contractors, quality, safety, etc.).
  • Become the automation champion at the site.
  • Participate in CI activates: LEAN and Six Sigma.


The Ideal:

  • Minimum of a 5 years experience
  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in EngineeringChemical Engineering Degree is preferable
  • Prior experience with operations of chemical process plants is essential
  • Knowledge and prior experience with Delta V system is preferable
  • Experience in managing as well as successfully completing projects
  • LEAN and Six Sigma training will be useful
  • Strong desire to learn new areas and grow in the company
