Business Development Manager Proteins - US Home office

What you’ll do:

Drive new business development in North America through close collaboration with the DSM Food & Beverage savory commercial team in the Meat & Fish Alternatives segment. Focus will be on proteins: pea, faba bean and canola TVPs protein flours, protein blends and premixes.  Come join the Proteins of the Future (PoFu) commercial team!

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop & implement sales plan and ‘go to market’ strategy in North America (NA) to fill the sales pipeline and close sales in meat/fish alternatives
  • Identify market opportunities, evaluate their potential and translate into sales plan, both strategically and tactically; follow up on leads and gain traction in the market
  • Develop commercial contacts and build relationships with targeted NA customers and implement development plans with NA customers jointly with DSM Food & Beverages savory sales team
  • Establish and execute regional commercial plans, including forecast
  • Manage regional market intelligence and incorporate benchmarking and competitive profiling in business development plans


This position is US home based.  Ideal geography is the west coast of the US, specifically Los Angeles or San Francisco.  Other locations will be considered provided you have access to a major airport.


You bring:

  • Minimum 10 years of commercial experience in nutrition and/or food ingredients
  • Solid understanding of food ingredients market, especially plant proteins required
  • New business development experience is required; proven track record in achieving ambitious business development targets and working in an innovative highly dynamic field and bringing in commercial results in the VUCA world
  • Strong self-insight and insight in others, inclusive mindset
  • Exceptional customer management, negotiation, and strategic selling skills - strong aptitude for proactively identifying needs and defining solutions
  • Strong planning, collaboration and influencing skills as well as communication skills
  • Able to perform in a fast-paced work environment where constant re-prioritization is required
  • Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree preferred
