DSM Engineering Materials (DEM) is a Business Group in the performance materials cluster of DSM, with ~1800 employees worldwide. DEM is one of the world’s leading suppliers of engineering thermoplastics offering a broad portfolio of high performance products. DEM has manufacturing facilities in 8 countries around the world to supply consistent quality products to our customers, wherever needed. DEM is developing global product lines that are generating existing and new business via 3 regions: Europe, Asia Pacific and North America. DEM launches products for 4 segments: Automotive, Electrical &Electronics, General Industries, Extrusions Packaging.


Our products are very technical with a broad range of specifications and potential application areas. In most cases they are typical specialties, replacing existing applications of competitors and/or become new applications. Both innovation of product and applications is crucial to become and stay key supplier. Cycle times vary from 6 months to 3 years.  Our materials are used in components for the electrical & electronics, automotive, flexible food packaging and consumer goods industries. Key products are polyamide 6, 66, 6/66, 410, 4/6, polyesters (PBT, PET) and thermoplastic copolyester (TPC).

The markets in which DEM operates are very dynamic with customers who use complex value chains and focus more and more on a global approach. Professionals of DEP intercept on technology, application and total cost of semi and/or end product. 


Account Manager will develop, implement and realize the account strategy and plan, within the sales strategy and plan and corporate requirements and guidelines, to ensure the realization of planned business results and long-term customer relationship objectives are achieved


In the role of Account Manager, you will:

  • Establish, coordinate & execute specific Accounts tactics & plans to realize pre-defined/agreed sales and overall customer relationship objectives, both for the short- and long term
  • Define and implement a strategic account plan. Translate into Financial profitability and goals both strategically and tactically and be accountable for top line profit
  • Contribute to develop the sales plan, both strategically and tactically
  • Monitor and coordinate the execution of the account plan, report based on defined performance indicators and take corrective actions, to achieve the results
  • Build sustainable cross layer networks in the defined accounts by both direct engagement and by positioning key stakeholders to the right level in the account to speed up development and brick wall running business
  • Identify long term business opportunities with the account(s) and include these in the account strategy and plan
  • Define and implement projects with focus on key products, processes and innovation, and decide on clear PMP structure and accountabilities
  • Monitor and benchmark competitive products, market requirements and competitive business strategies (competitive profiling) and incorporate benchmarking and competitive profiling in account and sales plans
  • Lead contract negotiations with the respective account(s) and ensure the conclusion of sales contracts
  • Coordinate technical service or after sales service activities towards the account
  • Monitor the complaint process and ensure an appropriate complaint settlement with the account within the agreed timeline
  • Monitor the account’s payment behavior and act to ensure payment within the agreed payment terms

What we look for in you:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in science/technology or a business-related field required
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in manufacturing sales/account management required
  • In depth knowledge of engineering plastics customers, products and applications required
  • Expertise in plastics in oil and gas, medical, agricultural and/or automotive industries a plus
  • Strong customer interaction
  • Strong commercial acumen
  • Drive to challenge the status quo
  • Balance of commercial and technical know-how, skills and experience
  • Managerial and social knowledge and experience
  • CRM experience a plus
  • Excellent communication skills
