DSM Engineering Plastics (DEP) is a Business Group in the Performance Materials cluster of DSM.  DEP is one of the world’s leading suppliers of engineering thermoplastics, offering a broad portfolio of high performance products. DEP owns manufacturing facilities around the world to supply consistent, high-quality products wherever needed.


DEP is developing product lines on a global and a regional perspective. The product lines are generating existing and new business via 3 regions: Europe, Asia Pacific and the Americas.  DEP launches products for industries such as Automotive, Electronics, Electrical Products, Film & Base Polymer, and other General Industries.


The products are very technical, with a broad range of specifications and potential application areas.  In most cases, the products are replacing competitive products in existing applications and / or penetrating new applications.  Both innovation of products and applications is crucial to becoming and remaining a key supplier to the customer.   Development cycles for products & applications vary from months to several years or more.


The markets in which DEP operates are very dynamic, with customers who regularly use complex value chains and often focus more on a global approach.  Customers of DEP value technology, application knowledge, and total costs of their products, among other drivers.  To operate in this field, colleagues at DEP manage many relationships in order to achieve new & lasting customer satisfaction and sustained business growth.  Business intelligence & innovation are crucial to be ahead of competitors & to keep the development funnel loaded.


The DEP West Coast Team is a global team designed to provide the best possible speed and service levels to manage the existing business and capture profitable growth at DEP’s target accounts.


We have an opening for Account Manager, on the West Coast Team, who is the primary hunter for new business at a broad list of OEM accounts.  Account Manager will produce new business growth by making the full range of DEP expertise in applications, materials, and testing available to new and assigned customers.  In addition, Account Manager serves to maintain and grow profitable business for DEP at selected accounts.


In the role of Account Manager, you will:

  • Support development of new business through the generation of technical value proposals and multiplication tools, application and design knowledge. (market/application, product, processing) at the OEM accounts.
  • Drive R&T product development projects on assigned applications via communication with global team and project management processes.
  • Translate customer & application requirements into product specifications to recommend existing products or, if necessary, to draw up product development specifications in consultation with relevant DEP functions.
  • Incorporate specialists (ADE, Tech Service, (G)TPM, PD’s, CAE, Research / Ahead, or other local labs), as the DEP representative to the accounts, when required to increase opportunities for profit and growth at the OEM accounts.
  • Make proposals regarding optimum grades, processing, and design, working with the ADE.
  • Execute and follow the NDA requirements with new customers and protect information in all communications.
  • Manage the development process in a value chain with multiple tiers including collaborating closely with team members in Asia.
  • Work on the entire DEP product portfolio
  • Manage West Coast Team selected accounts (10-15 accounts)


What we look for in you:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; degree in Mechanical, Chemical, or Electrical Engineering or related field preferred
  • Advanced scientific (Master of Science) or business degree (Master of Business Administration) a plus
  • Minimum of 5 years of commercial or customer facing experience in plastics, thermoplastics, adhesives, coatings, resins and/or materials required
  • B2B Sales Experience required
  • Experience in technical sales preferred
  • Knowledge of competitive landscape in engineering thermoplastics preferred
  • Plastic part design knowledge is a plus
  • Plastic processing and tooling knowledge is a plus
  • Customer relationship management
  • Proven success in large and small cross-functional team environment
