DSM-Firmenich, a global leader in the fragrance and flavor sector, is recruiting a committed Specialist Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) professional. This role, based in South Africa, focuses on enhancing safety initiatives across our Midrand, Midrand Operations, and Samrand sites. The Specialist HSE will implement and maintain robust HSE policies, conduct risk assessments and audits, and develop training programs. They will also drive a culture of safety and environmental responsibility, integrating HSE considerations into all operational aspects.

Your key responsibilities

  • Collaborates and contributes to various safety-related training courses (GEMBA, evacuation exercise, welcome of new members, SafeStart, Life Saving Rules, SHE Management System).
  • Monitor and track incident reporting system according to global SHE management requirements and support site emergency management system and emergency drills.
  • Conduct site SHE inspections daily, especially focusing on high-risk activities and local legislative inspections, apply corrective actions from Group Audit
  • Participates in internal and external audits and contributes to the operation of our HSE Management System and follow up the audit findings. · Conduct toolbox talks, and chair monthly safety meetings with the safety reps, and assist the First Aiders, Fire Fighters in compliance issues.
  • Conduct a Task Based Risk Assessment (TBRA) and monitor waste management and contractor management on site.
  • Capture and facilitate the environmental information and generate the reports.
  • Assist operational personnel with administration for RAs, HIRAs, SOPs, LSOs, JSAs and RCAs as required.

You bring:

  • Relevant tertiary qualification (or equivalent) Degree in safety management, environmental management.
  • A minimum of more than 2 years’ HSE experience in multi-national company of FMCG and chemical industry.
  • Be familiar with most current HSE related laws and regulations (Local and Global).
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication abilities.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with a team.
  • Problem-solving mindset with a proactive approach.
  • Commitment to maintaining a safe and compliant workplace.
