Senior Scientist, Air Care Development

Location: Princeton, NJ


Join our dynamic and innovative air care technical development team at dsm-firmenich, where innovation, diversity, and sustainability are at the heart of everything we do.  The Senior Scientist will work closely with customers and cross‑functional perfumery teams, collaborate with R&D to deepen fragrance performance understanding and build models that enhance creation efficiency.   The Senior Scientist will also partner with open‑innovation groups to identify breakthrough technologies and bring them to strategic customers.

 

Your Key Responsibilities:

  • Participate in and execute the air care category strategy with business units, perfumers, evaluators, and development teams, ensuring strong alignment with customer priorities.
  • Lead and supervise the development, testing, and evaluation of new technologies and product forms, driving differentiated solutions for strategic customers.
  • Support perfumers with scientific insights, performance data, and predictive models that improve creation efficiency and enable winning fragrance designs.
  • Manage global strategic innovation projects, ensuring scientific rigor, timely delivery, and clear communication across R&D, commercial, and customer teams.
  • Define, implement, and validate scientific standards, methodologies, and procedures to ensure robustness and reproducibility of air care technical work.
  • Promote a partnership mindset with key clients and open‑innovation partners, while actively networking within the global R&D organization to secure resources and continuously identify category‑driving innovations.

You Bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related scientific field, supported by substantial professional experience in fragrance, air care, or adjacent product categories with minimum of 10 years industry experience. 
  • Strong knowledge of analytical chemistry, sensory science, and product or formulation development, including familiarity with malodor control technologies.
  • Experience with data management tools, digital methodologies, or modeling approaches relevant to fragrance or product performance (a strong advantage).
  • A collaborative and cross‑functional mindset, with the ability to partner effectively across science, creation, marketing, development, and customer‑facing teams.
  • Creativity, autonomy, openness, initiative, and strong communication skills, with the ability to translate complex scientific insights into clear, actionable recommendations.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English, with confidence presenting to both technical and non‑technical audiences. 

The salary or hourly wage scale provided reflects the pay range dsm-firmenich expects to pay the successful candidate for the position. Individual pay offered will be based on the applicant’s job-related skills, experience, relevant education, or training, and primary work location. This position is also eligible for bonuses and benefits, which are not included in the pay scale provided. Salary $133,000 -$145,000.
