PLC Technician – Mulgrave N.S.  

 

The Challenge:

 Work Schedule: 4/10 - 4 days a week; 10 hours a day

The PLC Technician is responsible for the programming, monitoring, and troubleshooting of the Instrumentation and PLC Systems, as well as, Process Design for Maintenance and improvements for the Mulgrave site. 

The Purpose:

  • Provide technical support for members of Maintenance team
  • Provide technical support for Operations, specifically related to Control Systems, Process, and Instrumentation
  • Assist and support the Improve Plant Department and Maintenance Planners with programming & commissioning of systems and equipment
  • Provide technical support for Control Systems, Process and Instrumentation such as, System monitoring, debugging and troubleshooting operational problems, making repairs and performing preventative maintenance activities
  • Follow company standards for Work Permits, Working at Heights, Working in Hazard
  • Follow all company standards for Control Systems and Electrical and Instrumentation Equipment
  • Assist with the development and implementation of standard operating practices and provide detailed documentation upon program and project completion
  • Assist with the creation and revision of programs for PLC’s
  • Works to SHE standards and encourages fellow colleagues to work to the same standards
  • Displays and promotes positive safety behaviors at all times; uses proper personal protective equipment, appropriate safety tools, equipment and procedures to ensure that self and others go home safe each day; that area and equipment operate at the highest safety levels; that all people in the area comply with the safety directives and keep the area neat and clean
  • Follows all SHE instructions and procedures to include awareness of and following all DSM Life Saving Rules.  Acts in such a way that safety awareness and accident prevention are considered in performing all tasks
  • Projects and special assignments will be determined and assigned as required

The Ideal:

  •  High School Diploma or GED. A minimum of or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience, which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job
  •  Post-Secondary Education with a focus in Electrical Engineering Technology and Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) 
  • Red Seal Certification preferred
  • 5+ years of experience working in a manufacturing environment would be considered an asset.
  • Experience working with the following software: Allen Bradley, Rockwell Software, Factory Talk and RSview will be considered an asset

  • Tasks require the ability to exert moderate physical effort in medium to heavy work, typically involving some combination of climbing stairs, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling, and which may involve some lifting (10 – 40 kgs), carrying (10 – 40 kgs), pushing and/or pulling of objects using pallet jacks (rolling wt of 800kgs).

  • Requires the ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagrammatic form.  Involves semi-routine standardized work with some latitude for independent judgment concerning choices of action.
    Environment (unavoidable adverse conditions)
     
  • Performance of essential functions may require exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, temperature and noise extremes, machinery, vibrations, electric currents or toxic agents.
