The Associate Technician – Wastewater Utilities will support the upkeep and maintenance of the Wastewater facilities areas and performs operations to treat and prepare waste water to be discharged into the Municipal waste water system.  This role requires one to work Day shift (7AM – 4PM).

Associate Technician – Wastewater Utilities
Location: Kingstree, SC

You will be responsible to:

  • Ensures personal compliance with all safety, health and environmental guidelines and standards.
  • Assist with wastewater functions and ensure pumps, conveyors, blowers, vacuum equipment and other waste water equipment is working properly.
  • Operates pumps, valves, and other machinery to control the flow of raw wastewater into the treatment facilities.
  • Conduct routine process control sampling and analysis.  Make operational adjustments as necessary based on data interpretation.  Conduct weekly sample collection for regulatory compliance.
  • Monitor and adjust chemical addition for wastewater clarification and sludge dewatering.  Monitor and adjust flow rates and water pressures throughout system.
  • Ensure proper operation and compliance of the on-site landfill.  Also, assist with off-site landfill operations and help develop methods to reduce waste going to each.
  • Assist with other departmental responsibilities as needed to include: building maintenance, general housekeeping, removal of waste, maintaining grounds, and transporting materials; execute equipment de-energization/isolation/lock outs along with associated documentation and issue permits to work for maintenance personnel or contractors.

What we look for in you:

  • Operate equipment and machinery as assigned
  • Input and maintain required Wastewater Treatment Plant records
  • Place orders for purchases as needed and directed
  • Minimum high school diploma.  Some postsecondary education in the natural sciences or engineering preferred but not required.
  • Must have basic repair and maintenance skills and knowledge of basic tools.  Must be able to operate company vehicles and equipment.
  • Knowledge of concepts, principles, and practices, as well as the hazards found, and safety precautions used in a modern wastewater treatment preferred.
  • Knowledge of the mechanical principles and function of pumps, fluid flow, and typical process wastewater equipment preferred.  Prefer knowledge and understanding of basic water chemistry and possess excellent troubleshooting skills.
  • This position must possess the ability to add, subtract, multiply, divide, calculate percentages and apply these abilities to the wastewater facility as needed for plant operations and have the ability to use a calculator, hand and power tools, telephone, hand-held radio units, and able to navigate and use a computer.
  • Communication (oral and written) skills. 
  • Must be able to handle and prioritize multiple tasks.
  • Must be able to work independently and within team
  • Prefer valid driver’s license
  • A minimum of 1 year working in a chemical manufacturing environment is required.  A minimum of 1 year of waste water treatment experience with a D or C biological wastewater license preferred (South Carolina Environmental Certification Board). 
  • Must be able to train on waste water functions, attend classes, and successfully receive waste water certifications as needed (Up to the A-level licensure).
