The Challenge


The Production Floater Operator fulfills the Standard Role of Operator within the context of delivering on production goals in all manufacturing areas.  When all departments are fully shift the floater operator will focus on continuous improvement, autonomous maintenance, documentation and training. The floater operator will also be used to train new employees if needed.


The Position


Safety, Health & Environment (SHE) Duties and Responsibilities

  • Displays and promotes positive safety behaviors at all times; uses proper personal protective equipment, appropriate safety tools, equipment and procedures that ensure self and others go home safe each day. Assures that area and equipment operate to highest safety levels, that all people in area (maintenance, quality, visitors, contractors, etc.) comply with safety directives and area is kept neat and clean.
  • Aware of and follows all DSM Life Saving Rules.
  • Acts in such a way that safety awareness and accident prevention are considered in performing all tasks.
  • Maintain the standards of cleanliness and an organized work environment.



  • Floater operator as part of the shift leadership, will support the production team to create intermediate and finished goods while ensuring compliance to SOP’s, cGMP’s, and all SHE requirements. 
  • Responsible for creating, updating and maintaining JSAs, SOPs and OPLs.
  • Responsible for training of new employees
  • Trouble shoots production equipment as necessary.
  • Drives for continuous improvement by proposing improvement ideas, maintenance notifications, and conducting 5-WHYs
  • Support project work and hand-over to RUBU activities.
  • Supports compliance of the production organization with the establishment requirements for:
  • SHE, Security, cGMPs, FSC 22,000, USDA approved establishment requirements, Kosher, Halal, and other relevant rules and regulations.  


The Ideal

  • High School diploma or equivalent and 1-3 year of revelant process experienced preferred.
  • Perform daily tasks in a manner to promote and ensure food safety
  • Maintain food safety understanding by actively participating in all site wide food safety trainings
  • Must be able to read/comprehend English
  • Experience and ability to work independently and as part of a team to accomplish goals
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Ability and willingness to work overtime and flexible schedule as needed
  • Must be 18 years old to work in a plant job. 
  • Ability to wear a respirator as needed.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office at a competent level.  (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
