The Challenge

  • Drives continuous improvement within the production team, support the DICI journey, and to support the production teams to reach their goals. The CI, engineer manages projects to improve site performance in safety, quality, delivery, and cost
  • Project team member for new/changed processes, process equipment, including but not limited to providing User Requirements, assessing the impact on operations.
  • Reviews day-to-day production performance, support/leads troubleshooting, performs Root Cause Analysis and monitors operating windows
  • Process Safety team member
  • Support process safety risk assessments including but not limited to: HAZOP analysis for new and old processes, Machine Safety Assessment, Chemical Safety Risk


The Position

  • Assist and coach crafts to conduct maintenance in an effective manner.
  • Identify improvement opportunities and provide input regarding scheduling/review/analysis of doing a segment of the Manufex work process.
  • Conduct a variety of maintenance activities (e.g., preventative/corrective to optimize plant equipment).
  • Perform specialized predictive and preventative equipment inspections.
  • Troubleshoot plans and install and/or modify plant equipment with related systems.
  • Contribute to overall planning/scheduling Electrical/Instrumentation and Machinist/Pipefitting crafts.
  • Cross-train in multiple skill areas, training others.  Track, review, assist maintenance to support department KPIs, focusing on all crafts.  Track, review, assist in the department KPIs with focus on review, analysis of doing a segment of Manufex work process.  Review and plan job, order parts and provide general assistance to maintenance
  • Support the department in communication and training efforts.
  • Participate in housekeeping and Safety/Health/Environment efforts.
  • Assist with the identification of training needs.  May lead or assist in the development of training programs and in the delivery of the training programs for Electrical/Instrumentation and Machinist/Pipefitting crafts.
  • All employees are expected to be aware of and follow all DSM Life Saving Rules.
  • Display and promote positive safety behaviors at all times; use proper personal protective equipment, appropriate safety tools, equipment and procedures to ensure that self and others go home safe each day; that area and equipment operate at the highest safety levels; that all people in the area ( maintenance techs, quality personnel, visitors, contractors, etc.) comply with the safety directives and keep the area neat and clean.
  • Ensure SHE policy compliance.  Monitor Safety/Health/Environment incidents and assist Process Safety Management in the investigation.  Documents SHE incidents and assists in the notification of appropriate personnel.
  • Maintain necessary certifications and attends regulatory training as required.
  • Review results of hazard review and compliance audits and other information developed under the PSM standards.
  • Ensure safety equipment is properly located and functional.  Review and assure MSDS sheets and safety, emergency shutdown and evacuation procedures are known by the workforce prior to the crew beginning maintenance procedure.
  • Participate in Continuous Improvement/Capital Projects as needed.
  • Manufex roles are Problem Discover, Problem Diagnostician, Process Equipment Expert, Maintenance Scheduler, Maintenance Field Planner, Materials Coordinator, and Person doing the job.
  • Involvement in setting up and reviewing SHE requirements, procedures, and instructions.
  • Acts in such a way that safety awareness and accident prevention are considered in performing all tasks.
  • Shows leadership by working to SHE standards and encouraging employees to work to the same standards.
  • Completes all required safety classes (e.g. CBTs, learn and test on compass, lockout-tag out, confined space and RCSM.
  • Responsible for coordinating all plant site fire system inspections/repairs, and for responding to all fire system trouble and alarms.  Also coordinates State Fire Inspector visits and following up on all fire code violations.
  • Supports plant and corporate initiatives as outlined in the manufacturing plan. Follows the Manufex work processes.


The Ideal

Minimum 6-8 years of Mechanical/Electrical Maintenance Experience.

Certification from technical schools a plus.

High School Diploma Required

Understanding of Equipment Reliability and Maintenance
