DSM Biomedical is looking for a Safety Health & Environment (SHE) Specialist to support SHE initiatives in compliance with corporate requirements and relevant laws and regulations.  This individual will be a key influencer at the site to train, advise, perform audits and risk analysis and drive DSM’s global mission of safety policies that always puts our employees first.  

 

Safety Health & Environment (SHE) Specialist
Location: Exton, PA

You will be responsible to:

  • Develop, organize, and conduct SHE-related training programs, including, work permit, incident investigation, root cause, LOTO, etc.
  • Conduct risk assessments as required on various process equipment and tasks to quantify risk and recommend risk reduction measures to intended audience (i.e. production, maintenance, etc.).
  • Support environmental compliance by managing waste disposal process, air emissions inventory, and DSM Triple P reporting.
  • Assists in maintaining Management of Change process, including review of changes for SHE implications.
  • Develop and support occupational health processes including performing Health Risk Assessments, IH planning and monitoring and development of related programs such as Hearing Conservation, Respiratory Protection and Ergonomics.
  • Supports site in the preparation and execution of SHE Plan and the Emergency Response Plan with participation and assistance with training activities.  Develops and conducts drills and resolves identified gaps.
  • Ability to either take the lead or participate in incident investigations and the judgment to make the correct decision based on each situation.  Lead participants through site Root Cause Analysis methodology to arrive at sound causes and solutions to incidents.  
  • Manage site safety metric reporting to satisfy internal requirements and regulatory compliance.  Interface with corporate DBM SHE to satisfy internal reporting requirements.
  • Actively participates and leads site safety committee, first aid team and emergency response team meetings.  Plans and organizes team training, emergency response planning scenarios, evacuation drills, etc.  Maintains inventory of spill response materials.

What we look for in you:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a technical or SHE discipline required.
  • Three years of experience in various SHE-related functions with experience in manufacturing-related environments. 
  • High level of conceptual and analytical thinking and ability.
  • Cursory knowledge of National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standards, European Union (EU) regulations, US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regulations is desired.
  • Knowledge of US OSHA regulations as they relate to general industry.
