Project Manager  
Location: Exton, Pa

The Challenge

Our innovative biomedical materials and process manufacturing technologies include Biomedical Polyethylenes, Biomedical Polyurethanes, Collagen Technology, Device Development and Extracellular Matrix (ECM) technology. With the broadest portfolio of advanced healing solutions, DSM advances care across specialties, including orthopedics, cardiovascular, diabetes management, neurology, ophthalmology, dental, soft tissue repair, wound repair, plastic and reconstructive surgery, and women’s health. The market is growing at a double-digit rate and is characterized by long term commitment. Intellectual property is of paramount importance in this high value-added market arena.


Project Manager is responsible for the integrated management of the full project lifecycle (from Idea Evaluation through launch, DSM Project Management Program phases 1-5), process improvement initiatives, cost saving projects, and/or new business development projects as assigned while developing and managing partnerships with internal and external stakeholders. Project Manager will create and maintain the project plan and schedule, own the project budgets and spending, and be responsible for ensuring that project objectives and milestones are met within time and budget constraints and with appropriate quality.


To be successful, the Biomedical PMO needs to be a service organization with members who possess and exhibit project management excellence, business acumen, problem solving with creativity and pragmatism as challenges arise, and ability to anticipate potential barriers and quickly assemble sub-teams as necessary to resolve issues. Additional important factors include interpersonal savvy in achieving respectful conflict resolution and negotiating win-win outcomes, delegating tasks appropriately, exhibiting courage to hold team members accountable for their stated commitments, ability to thrive in the face of uncertainty and high-pressure business situations, and being tenacious and driven to succeed with the highest of standards.


This position reports to the Senior Director, Project Management Office.


In the role of Project Manager, you will:

  • Generate project plans and ensure that the project deliverables and milestones are met.
  • Manage projects in terms of money, time, scope, resource needs, quality and information/communication.
  • Manage multiple projects or initiatives based on scope, complexity, and timelines.
  • Ensure compliance of project team members with all relevant laws, internal and external quality and regulatory requirements and other relevant regulations.
  • Ensure a safe, healthy, and injury-free work environment.
  • Report the progress of the project versus the project plan.
  • Manage the risks related to the project and inform the appropriate authorities in case project objectives, milestones, quality, timing and/or budget incur risk.
  • Manage external party expectations, including those of the customer.
  • Manage the project team members and create teambuilding and team spirit.
  • Mentor Project Managers in the execution of projects and process of building relationships and project support.
  • Ensure compliance to DSM Project Management Program standards.


What we look for in you:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; MBA desirable
  • Minimum 6 years of broad experience managing multi-disciplinary projects or teams to successful business outcomes, including documented evidence of applying project management best practices required
  • Minimum 6 years of demonstrated knowledge and experience working with, coordinating, or facilitating other relevant disciplines (budgeting and financial reporting, Quality, Sales and Marketing, Manufacturing) in the context of project work required
  • Project management experience in a technical function/field required
  • Project management experience in medical device strongly preferred
  • Project Management Professional (PMP®) Certification from the Project Management Institute (PMI) a plus
  • Strong demonstrated and established leadership skills, and respected communication abilities with all levels of the organization
  • Strong negotiation skills, influence skills, conflict resolution skills, initiative, drive, and delegation ability
  • Collaborative, team player working in close connection with marketing, innovation, operations colleagues around the globe.
