In the role Engineer II, Natural Materials – Collagen & Bioceramics, you will:

  • Support and perform evaluations of new collagen, extracellular matrix, and/or bioceramic materials and processes to determine feasibility of use in new medical implants or devices.
  • Support the development of new component and/or device fabrication processes from idea, scale up, and implementation into manufacturing utilizing project phase gate process.
  • Support the process development using Design-of-Experiments to optimize processes, take measurements and interpret data for finalized process specifications and reduce process variance.
  • Support data driven statistical methods and RCA (Root Cause Analysis) techniques to identify the cause-and-effect relationship when solving problems
  • Write or support writing of protocols, reports, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for implementation of new products and manufacturing processes.
  • Create and/or process product documentation including process routers, material & equipment drawings, preventative maintenance procedures, and other written documentation in accordance with GMP requirements to support product development, process development, validations, and manufacturing.
  • Identify, evaluate, and recommend and/or implement improvements in the areas of Safety Health & Environment (SHE), productivity, efficiency, and reliability to existing processes or products.
  • Assist in identifying and securing intellectual property as related to new technologies, biomaterials and/or medical implants or devices.
  • Assist manufacturing and quality personnel in the training and initial launch and validation of new products and processes.

 

What we want to see in you:

  • BS degree in Biomedical, Mechanical, Chemical, or Materials Engineering. Master’s degree or a plus.
  • 2-6 years progressive experience in Research & Develop or Process Engineering.
  • Experience formulating collagen, extracellular matrices, and or bioceramic products, equipment and process validations (IQ, OQ, and PQ) and the transfer of new processes and equipment into manufacturing. 
  • Experience with tissue digestion, lyophilization, foaming, molding, compounding additives, and cross-linking a plus.
  • Must have excellent verbal / written communication, interpersonal, technical writing, attention to detail, time management, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge and understanding of ISO, QSR, cGMP regulations and other relevant regulatory and quality requirements – specifically as related to the manufacture of medical grade materials.
  • Computer literacy (i.e. Word, Excel, Project, PowerPoint, Minitab, SAP, & Outlook).
  • Knowledge of Design for Manufacturing, Design of Experiments, and statistical methods.
  • Project management, product costing, green belt and experience with design controls in FDA regulated industry desirable.
