Tech Lead (Science Foundation Squad)

Job title: Tech Lead (Science Foundation Squad)

Location: Delft, the Netherlands

We are looking for an experienced Tech Lead with at least 5 years of experience in AWS to drive the development and deployment of applications and data processing solutions in an R&D environment. This role requires a strong technical background in cloud architecture, web applications, and backend processing, as well as excellent leadership and collaboration skills to coordinate work across multiple teams and vendors. The tech lead will be responsible for managing and improving scalable cloud infrastructure and solutions, working closely with enterprise architects, data engineers, software developers, and researchers.

Your key responsibilities

  • Architect and oversee the deployment of web applications within existing frameworks and backend components
  • Implement and promote best practices in DevOps, CI/CD, security, and software quality
  • Design, build, and manage AWS infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code (especially AWS CDK), covering compute, storage, and networking services
  • Own and continuously improve infrastructure and platforms for application development, with a strong focus on developer experience
  • Monitor, troubleshoot, and resolve performance bottlenecks across web applications and backend systems
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure scalable, secure, and high-performing solutions across the technology stack

You bring

  • 5+ years of experience in cloud engineering, software development, or technical leadership
  • Proven experience deploying and managing web applications on AWS
  • Strong knowledge of Python-based backend systems (e.g., Dash Enterprise) and experience with scientific data processing
  • Familiarity with relational databases and handling large-scale data
  • Experience with Arcitecta Mediaflux for data management, experience in an R&D or scientific computing environment, or similar (nice to have)
  • Familiarity with AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, or similar (nice to have)
