Associate Director, Customer & Product Sustainability Engagement

Job title: Associate Director, Customer & Product Sustainability Engagement
Location: Maastricht or Delft, the Netherlands

This role is designed to advance our sustainability strategy by enhancing customer engagement and product sustainability performance. You will translate market trends, strategic goals and regulatory requirements into business centric insights and scalable solutions that deliver tangible value to customers, products and internal leadership stakeholders. The role bridges customer engagement needs, product innovation, procurement, and sustainability improvement initiatives to ensure alignment with evolving sustainability standards and expectations. 

 

Your key responsibilities

Customer Sustainability Engagement

  • Accountable for translating regulatory needs (e.g., CSRD), group net-zero strategy progression and market trends into customer-centric insights and information, business model and value-based selling to strengthen sustainability positioning
  • Responsible for enhancing customer service processes in collaboration with customer services teams to effectively address sustainability-related inquiries and briefs, improving quality of responses, SLAs, and bandwidth with further AI and Automation
  • Responsible for identifying and co-developing scalable sustainability performance use cases such as customer carbon dashboards, CTAP dashboards, portfolio impact tracking, tracking avoided emissions, sustainability procurement insights, PCF exchange, etc., which deliver tangible value to customers and customer-facing teams across multiple business units

Product Sustainability Performance

  • Accountable for defining and scaling product sustainability scorecards across business units, ensuring accessibility for customer-facing roles and customers
  • In partnership with Science & Research and business units, responsible for integrating sustainability metrics into new product innovation process, and existing products catalogues
  • In partnership with Procurement and Sustainability Planet/People Strategy, responsible for implementing data and processes that connect customer facing sustainability metrics with ingredient and supply chain performance
  • Represents dsm-firmenich in external sustainability initiatives (e.g., WBCSD), aligning product performance and portfolio assessments with evolving industry standards

  • Based on your experience we will offer you a base salary of € 105,000 to € 130,000 per year (including holiday allowance and 13th month) and extra benefits, such as 25 holiday days, a bonus, the option to buy more holiday days with a 6% my choice budget and much more

 

You bring

  • Advanced degree (Master’s or higher) in Sustainability, Environmental Science, Chemistry/Biochemistry, or equivalent professional background with sustainability expertise
  • Over 7 years of experience in sustainability strategy, customer engagement, or product development in relevant sectors
  • Strong knowledge of sustainability topics such as LCA, PCF, carbon accounting, ESG, CSRD, SBTi, and sustainable sourcing
  • Skills in cross-functional program management, business process analysis, and transformation leadership
  • Proficiency in leveraging data, AI, automation, and digital tools to drive sustainability initiatives
  • Excellent stakeholder management and executive presentation skills; fluency in English
