Scientist- Stability– Columbia, MD

As a Scientist- Stability you are ultimately responsible for executing various analytical tests against stability protocols in support of product development, research, process improvements, competitive intelligence and business support while respecting and upholding DSM Quality.


What can you expect in your work? No day is the same and you will be working in a dynamic work environment.  You will be responsible to:

  • Apply knowledge and experience in a range of scientific concepts, procedures and techniques to support stability testing and assigned projects
  • Design and perform laboratory experiments of varying complexity
  • Use scientific judgment and critical thinking to identify and implement solutions to technical and scientific challenges within stability
  • Operate, maintain and troubleshoot laboratory instrumentation, and pro-actively contribute to the organization and efficiency of the stability lab environment
  • Collaborate with other scientists of varying disciplines both within and outside of the department
  • Coordinate research and development stability studies and support Commercial/Quality stability studies as needed
  • Perform analyses in support of stability testing and operate and maintain semi-automated analytical instrumentation including HPLC, GC, titration and spectrometric equipment
  • Ensure that laboratory test method standards, controls, references, raw materials, reagents and solutions are purchased, labeled, and stored
  • Ensure that analytical results are accurate, reliable and timely
  • Coach junior personnel on designs and technical concepts
  • Works to SHE standards and encourages fellow colleagues to work to the same standards.

 What we like to see in your experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or related field plus 5 years of relevant experience or Master’s degree in Chemistry or related field plus some relevant laboratory/QC experience
  • Previous experience working in an analytical laboratory, in either an R&D or QC environment
  • Familiarity with common analytical techniques/instruments
  • Ability to multi-task, attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate details verbally and written
  • Team player with high energy level and  positive “can do” attitude strongly desired
  • Enhanced computer skills, including MS Office Suite
