The Position

  • RELOCATION PROVIDED FOR THE RIGHT CANDIDATE. 
  • Ensures compliance with all regulatory and internal aspects in the assigned environmental areas of Water Treatment, Wastewater Treatment, Stormwater control, air emissions, toxic release inventory, pollution prevention, right to know, and RCRA waste handling.
  • Represents the company as a point of contact for regulatory agencies.

  • Supports other departments with strategic project review and implementation.

  • Maintains all aspects of compliance in regards to assigned environmental disciplines (e.g. air, solid and hazardous waste, wastewater and water treatment, Stormwater, SPCC, DPCC, RTK, or TRI).

  • Manages wastewater discharge permit, water allocation permit, and all DRBC and Safe Drinking Water regulation activities.
  • Supports on-site N4 (wastewater) and T4 (water) license holders.
  • Manages disposal of non-hazardous and hazardous waste programs including waste tracking, invoicing, and efforts for waste reduction.
  • Observes, analyzes, and interprets information from process operations to identify areas for optimization.  Assists operators with establishing and maintaining predictive/preventative programs for the area.
  • Conceives, plans develop and recommends proposals for optimizing Utility capacity/capability/reducing the environmental footprint in the assigned process.
  • Serve as SHE team member for Improve Plant Projects.
  • Lead site wastewater treatability studies for any new process considerations for the site and drives water improvement initiatives.  Author of Water Risk Assessment.
  • Assists in data collection and report preparation for corporate Triple P.  Maintains Materiality Assessment and SOPs as assigned.
  • Leads and/or assists with the investigation of incidents/releases to ascertain causes and provide recommendations for preventive measures.
  • Leads and participates in site continuous improvement activities. 
  • Displays and promotes positive safety behaviors at all times, use proper personal protective equipment, appropriate safety tools, equipment and procedures to ensure that self and others go home safe each day; that area and equipment operate at the highest safety levels; that all people in the area (operators, maintenance, quality, visitors, contractors, etc.) comply with the safety directives.
  • Participates and leads in sections of Health Risk Assessments, in accordance with training.
  • Trains on and follows all DSM Life Saving Rules.
  • Shows leadership by working to SHEQ standards and encouraging employees to work to the same standards.
  • Ensure that all training is current and up to date.
  • Adheres to equipment/material specifications.  Follows the change control process.
  • Maintains a presence in production areas, and awareness of process performance, and accessibility to all process team members. 
  • Assists in identifying technical training needs, specifically environmental training. Provides coaching and training to operations personnel as needed.
  • Maintains current technical/engineering knowledge and shares that knowledge throughout the organization.
  • Must be available to support shift, weekend, and holiday schedules as required.
  • Must be able to perform the essential functions of the job, including but not limited to field inspection and evaluation of process equipment, systems, and facilities.
  • Participates and/or leads in the auditing process for compliance and continuous improvement.

 

 

The Ideal

  • BS in Engineering (or relevant technical discipline) plus three years of experience
  • Knowledge or expertise in environmental disciplines such as air compliance, drinking water compliance, wastewater compliance, solid waste, hazardous waste, DPCC, SPCC, TRI, NJ Pollution Prevention, or NJRTK with proficiency in multiple disciplines.
  • Training in water and wastewater treatment operations preferred.
  • Professional level of verbal and written communication, technical writing, interpersonal, participative leadership, time management, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge and understanding of personal computers, quality systems (ISO 9001), environmental systems (ISO 14001), environmental and safety regulations.
  • Knowledge of DSM SHE Requirements and Belvidere SHE standards, Safety, Health, and Environmental practices.
