Laboratory Technician I - Belvidere, NJ

The Challenge

The Lab Technician working in the stability lab will timely analyze and / or test under GMP and as per the Regional Stability Protocols a variety of materials including API (Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients), intermediates and finished products for Nutritional Supplements applying validated or compendia methods for the Regional Stability Testing Hub for DSM Nutritional Products.


The Position

  • Receives guidance and direction from the Quality Supervisor – Stability Lab or a designee/delegate.  
  • Performs/Applies Knowledge and skills to diverse and complex reactions.
  • Conducts Stability testing of products according to current compendia, regulatory, ICH guidelines and corporate quality systems.
  • Ensures the API and the Nutritional Supplement products are timely tested as per approved Regional Stability Protocols.
  • Handles autonomous accomplishment of routine analysis in the laboratory. Prepares standards, mobile phases, and reagents.
  • Maintains, monitors, and troubleshoots laboratory equipment (HPLC, GC, Autotitrator, IR, etc.)
  • Analyzes API, intermediates, and finished products stability samples for required tests by various analytical and instrumental methods.
  • Performs calculations, collects, and prepares data for evaluation and reviews data for reporting and entry into stability results databases.  Reports results for batch specific stability studies, and route for management approval in a timely manner.
  • Performs administrative lab tasks, such as the organization and archival of stability lab testing documents, and updating Regional SOP’s.
  • Keeps the Quality Supervisor (or a designee) informed of work status and suggests follow-up action to resolve atypical results and any problems encountered.  Performs investigation of OOS and maintains good documentation practices.
  • Works closely and aligns with the Regional Stability Coordinator on stability testing schedule while keeping the Quality Supervisor – Stability Lab aware of any testing schedule constraints or conflicts. May support sample pulling from Stability Chambers as needed.
  • Recommend improvements and provide advice on routine operational procedures as related to stability testing.
  • Author upon request relevant stability operation SOP's under the guidance of the Quality Supervisor – Stability Lab.
  • May serve on project teams for consolidation of stability testing in the regional stability lab.
  • Perform analytical method transfer from other DNP cGMP sites to the Regional Stability Hub as needed. May support protocol-driven validation activities.


The Ideal

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant Scientific discipline required, Chemistry preferred.
  • Knowledge of quality control techniques, methods, safety, laboratory hygiene and GMP rules.
  • 0-3 years of experience in a lab utilizing various instrumentation (HPLC, GC, IR, UV etc.).
  • Experience in GMP quality control and/or pharmaceutical and/or Nutritional Supplements manufacturing facility is preferred.
  • Pharmaceutical and/or Nutritional Supplements stability testing experience is preferred.

  • Experience with MS Suite of products, SharePoint and ability to learn new computer applications including LIMS.
  • Operates with a sense of urgency in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong organization, communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
