We are #HIRING an Improve Plant Engineer

Location: Arcadia, WI

 

DSM’s HNB Engine, is present in over 40 countries comprising the complete value chain from R&D to customer distribution. Within HNB, the Nutritional Lipids (NL) Organization includes production and sale of marine oil products and algal oil products.  This position falls within the marine/organic oil section of nutritional lipids.

 

The Arcadia Manufacturing Plant is a multi-product spray drying facility for micro-encapsulating marine oils. The wet phase of the micro-encapsulation process is technically complex with proprietary technologies.  The process runs 24 hours per day, 7 days per week.  Product portfolio contains 10 products and products are run in multiple campaigns each month. Current capacity of the plant is 1k tons per year. The plant includes a packaging line.  The finished products are primarily used in food applications.

 

You’ll be responsible to:

 

  1. Identify improvement opportunities throughout the plant and develops plans to implement identified improvements.
  2. Lead area / operational diagnostics to identify value with the DICI toolbox, including leading Kaizen events, Value Stream Mapping, Root Cause Analysis and A3 Thinking
  3. Lead CI projects such that objectives and milestones are met, within agreed budget and timing, utilizing the Lean Six Sigma methodology.
  4. Facilitate and/or participate in Root Cause Analysis (RCAs) to solve plant issues.
  5. Perform all work while following the One DSM Culture Agenda and adhering to the Arcadia Code of Conduct.
  6. Work to obtain approval for improvement projects following the DSM requirements (Management of Change (MOC), Small Projects (SP), Improve Plant (IP), etc.).

What we look for in you:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in an engineering discipline, Mechanical/Chemical/Process engineering degree preferred
  • 1+ years' experience as an engineer in a manufacturing environment
  • Previous experience in a GMP/food environment is desirable but not required
  • Knowledgeable in the microencapsulation process through interactions at the plant and with process experts
  • Requires project management skills to include planning, executing and evaluating projects, estimating and budgeting, scheduling, managing Construction Contractors and Consultants, management and execution of supplier bid processes
  • Must learn and use the DSM Capital Expenditure Request system including SAP
  • Must develop/maintain a strong working relationship with staff in Production and Maintenance wherein most improvements are implemented, and outcomes reside
  • Requires proficiency in Lean/Six Sigma concepts
  • Requires ability to bridge technological know-how with “real world” operation to ensure successful implementation of solutions.
  • Requires knowledge of FMEA and RCA tools and techniques
  • Requires an advanced level of computer literacy and data entry skill with spreadsheet programs and proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, and SharePoint)
  • Requires excellent oral and written communication skills
