As a successful applicant, you will join our multi-disciplinary team in our Science & Research Process Safety Laboratory located in La Plaine, Geneva. You will ensure systematic assessment of industrial risks as emphasis is on the data determination and its use for the design of safe process. In other words, you will be responsible to lead risk analysis -or supply support- of different kind of chemical processes (new innovative process based on continuous, batch, and semi-batch operations, existing process to be optimized, process utilizing powder technologies…) understand the thermal aspects of processes and perform a practically oriented assessment of chemical process safety in accordance with the production transfer schedule in coordination with the pilot and production teams.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide technical expertise during risk analysis studies (HAZOP, What-if, LOPA, etc.) and closely monitor procedures to identify and mitigate hazards related to the development of new processes to manufacture specialty chemicals. This includes following risk analysis action lists, interpreting laboratory results to meet internal client needs, prioritizing requests based on team workload, and supporting HSE and expert teams in transferring new processes from pilot scale to production.
- Be proactive and act as a reference in technical subjects that include chemical hazard assessment, explosion risk assessment, and risk analysis.
- Participate actively to progress meetings for projects and new chemical development steps.
- Implement process safety strategies within global R&D activities and provide robust expertise to support projects at various sites in other countries, including process transfers.
- Interpreting thermal data from laboratory process safety reports, including DSC, C80, ARC, AKTS, powder assessment, and other physicochemical data, to ensure the proper progression of risk analyses.
We bring:
- A degree in chemistry (MSc or Engineer) with a specialization in process safety or chemical engineering is required. In-depth knowledge of risk analysis is required.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in a multi-product environment and/or in a process safety lab is preferred.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to find pragmatic solutions within constraints such as those in pilot and production environments are crucial, along with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and communicate effectively with multidisciplinary teams (R&D, pilot, production, Safety Health, & Environment department, and stakeholders.
- We are looking for a motivated individual who is curious, creative, rigorous, efficient and is comfortable working with multidisciplinary teams. The ideal candidate will be passionate about process safety and excited to work in a dynamic, cross-functional environment, and have excellent interpersonal skills to build strong relationships with stakeholders.
- Fluency in both English and French is required.
