Maintenance Technician

Job title – Maintenance Technician

The Maintenance Technician will report to the Maintenance Lead. The Maintenance technician will operate in a dynamic mix of running production, improvement projects under execution and ongoing preventive/corrective maintenance activities. It is crucial to maintain overview of activities, gauge disturbances in ongoing work, remain agile while remaining focused on timely delivery and safety of maintenance and engineering jobs. The Maintenance technician must continuously align with internal stakeholders while executing the PPM agenda (the improvement cycle) and the daily maintenance jobs (the daily cycle).

Your key responsibilities

  • SHE: Follow safe work practices / rules and practice safe behaviour always, with regard to own and others’ safety. Operate tools and equipment (preparation for maintenance jobs, L0T0T0) safely and effectively in line with company policy and procedures. Report all incidents and injuries promptly and accurately to management. Fully understand the site Emergency and Evacuation Policies and Procedures.
  • Quality: Ensure that hygiene, safety standards, maintenance procedures and deployed tools (incl. uniforms) are maintained and – if relevant – cleaned to reduce product contamination and quality defects. Ensure that maintenance documentation and maintenance SOPs are kept up to date and accurate as per company procedures and required quality standards.
  • Maintenance: Follow and execute the site preventive/predictive maintenance program in alignment with production requirements and budgets. Ordering and managing critical spare parts as part of the PPM program. Ensure timely and effective corrective maintenance in coordination with production activities. Relentlessly evaluate each job done and provide feedback into the PPM program (continuous improvement cycle, Maintain, MRO (Maintenance, Repair and Operations) & SP (Small Projects) work processes). Manage maintenance contractors and ensure a proper (safety) introduction and induction on site before commencing work. Plan and coordinate work order requests. Challenge input and prioritisations where needed. Prepare work permits (and supporting documentation) in alignment with production. Evaluate level of risk involved and facilitate/execute the necessary assessments (JSA, LOTOTO, high risk measures, LMRA). Hand out work permits after ensuring the correct preparation has been executed. Authorise (and arrange correct authorisation level) prior to work permit execution. Coordinate (preparation, work place auditing, coaching, challenge) safe execution, prestart-up checking and workplace handover prior to putting equipment back into operation. 100% safe execution of every job every time, no concessions (zero tolerance) on Safety and Health.
  • Communication and Documentation: Communicate and coordinate necessary information between all stakeholders (maintenance, production, projects, SHE, Quality) to ensure undisrupted operations. Chair the weekly maintenance planning meeting and attend the daily production meeting. Read, understand and execute work instructions relevant to the role and activities. On an on-going basis evaluate procedures and systems relative to the Maintenance Lead’s involvement. Assist with preparation and documentation as required.
  • Process and Personnel Performance: Analyse maintenance metrics as per Maintain, MRO and SP Work Processes and be involved in operational KPIs like OEE (Operating Equipment efficiency), OTIF (On Time in Full). Provide guidance to contractors in their assigned responsibilities and execute a yearly performance review. Evaluate equipment performance and make recommendations for improvement. Implement maintenance process improvements to enhance operational efficiency and safety.

  • Minimum 5-years of relevant experience in a manufacturing/production environment with maintenance planning context required.
  • Good communicator and sensitive to various perspectives of stakeholders.
